About Would it be a good idea to stay at a hotel in Oakand, and travel every day to San Francisco

Would it be a good idea to stay at a hotel in Oakand, and travel every day to San Francisco?
I am going on vacation to San Francisco (by airplane) and I have found some low priced hotels close to the Oakland airport. But I dont know if it is worth it to stay in Oakland and then travel everyday to SF using the public transportation system.

You'd save some money by staying in a cheaper hotel and using public transportation. You wouldn't pay the parking fees in the city, and wouldn't have the traffic hassles. Just be sure you have easy access to the transportation.
Answer 2 :
Staying in Oakland is definitely feasible. In terms of distances, San Francisco and Oakland = Manhattan and one of the neighboring boroughs. They're right next to each other. However, you need to make sure you'll have easy access to Downtown San Francisco. That means you'll either need to stay near a BART station (preferably Lake Merritt, 12th Street, or Rockridge...which are the safest stations in Oakland)... or the Jack London Square area (which has ferry service). http://www.sfcityscape.com/maps/bay_area_rail.html http://www.bart.gov/index.asp http://www.eastbayferry.com/ Some AC Transit buses serve Downtown San Francisco, but they're much more difficult to figure out, both in terms of finding the right bus stop and scheduling issues. http://www.actransit.org/riderinfo/sanfrancisco.wu

no thers lot's of traffic.

If you are only going to be visiting San Francisco I would advise that you stay in San Francisco. You can walk, take taxis, or buses all over the city. Being in Oakland and having to travel to San Francisco would take anywhere from an hour to 2 hours out of your day travelling. I know when I am on vacation every hour matters so why waste it having to travel back and forth? Also if you go out at night in the city you would not have to worry about making it back to Oakland. The money and time you would spend on public transportation would be better spent on the hotel in San Francisco. I would much rather wake up at my destination rather than have to travel to it everyday and I'm sure you would too.
Answer 5 :
I would stay in Pacifica 15 minutes south of San Francisco at a cool little hotel at Rockaway beach for a pretty good price. It's right on the beach. If you want the number you can email me. Pacifica is A LOT nicer than Oakland not mention safer!!!!!! :)
Answer 6 :
You want to go back to Oakland , at NIGHT, on Bart, or AC. transit? Are you nuts? Why do you think those hotels are cheep? I'm an Oakland native and I wouldn't want to take that ride every night! Berkeley-Albany or Emeryville are much better ideas
